About GarageAnswers
GarageAnswers answers car questions the way you ask them: "why is my check engine light flashing," "do I have a recall," "how often do I really need an oil change." The answer comes first, in a sentence or two. The detail comes after, for anyone who wants it.
How we write an answer
- Answer first. Every page opens with a short, direct answer. If the honest answer is "it depends," we say what it depends on.
- Sourced, not guessed. Factual claims trace to the sources listed at the bottom of each page: government agencies like NHTSA and the EPA, automaker documentation, and established consumer and motoring organizations.
- No made-up numbers. We only publish a price or cost range when we can cite where it came from, and we date it. Repair prices vary a lot by region, vehicle and shop, so treat any range as a starting point for a quote, not a quote.
- Safety first. When a problem can hurt you or wreck an expensive part, we say so plainly and tell you to stop and get it looked at by a qualified technician.
- Kept current. Each page shows the date it was last reviewed. When sources change, we update the page.
What we are not
We are not your mechanic. We can't see or hear your car, and general information can't replace an in-person diagnosis. Your owner's manual and your automaker's guidance come first whenever they disagree with anything here.
How we make money
GarageAnswers may earn a commission when you buy through some links on this site, at no extra cost to you. Links that can earn us money are disclosed. Commissions never decide what an answer says, and we don't accept payment for rankings, ratings or reviews.
Found a mistake?
Cars vary, and we'd rather be corrected than wrong. If something on a page doesn't match your owner's manual or a source we cite, tell us and we'll fix it.
